    To understand the benefits and differences between regulated and unregulated MODs, we first have to understand exactly what each of these terms actually means. A regulated MOD is any MOD setup that includes a circuit board specifically set up to regulate current. With this internal circuitry, the MOD is able to keep newer vapers from overloading or overheating the battery. Lots of these regulated MODs also include a built in voltage and ohm reader, to ensure that new MOD builders are getting the correct ohm readings from their coils.

    On the other hand, unregulated MODs don't have this internal circuitry. To create a circuit, unregulated MODs have a cap that must be pressed to allow current to flow. Though this may seem very basic, not having the internal circuitry means there is no safety mechanism to keep you from overheating your battery. There’s also no safety from atomizers shorting, meaning unregulated MODs are more dangerous for the uninitiated. This doesn’t mean unregulated MODs are worse, though! Regulated and unregulated MODs both have upsides specific to them.

    Regulated MODs are significantly better choices for newer vapers, as there are more safety checks for potentially dangerous electrical currents. Since current and voltage is regulated, the battery life on regulated MODs is usually significantly longer. Because voltage is regulated, there's no chance of pulling with an extremely high voltage that could potentially drain the battery quickly. Furthermore, regulated MODs usually come equipped with a digital display that is extremely useful for noting voltage, wattage, battery charge, and ohms.

    Unregulated MODs do not come equipped with all this fancy machinery. They make up for this lack of so-called modern technology with unparalleled power. With no voltage restrictions, unregulated MODs are able to increase voltage and wattage output significantly. More-so, the unregulated varieties of MODs are able to utilize lower ohm coil use, since they can use significantly more power than regulated MODs could. These MODs are also far more customizable, since the wiring inside does not all have to run through an internal circuit board.

    In essence, choosing the right MOD for you comes down to your experience level and how comfortable you are with vaping with high levels of electricity. Making the right choice is essential, as choosing an unregulated MOD without the proper level of vaping experience could result in some critical mishaps occurring. If you’re a seasoned vaper who is ready to take that next step into the extremely powerful and complex world of unregulated Modding, then go for it. However, if you’re a more relaxed experienced vaper who doesn’t particularly want to be on alert during vaping sessions or if you’re a new modder, then a regulated MOD is definitely what you should aim for.     Propylene glycol. Vegetable glycerin. As a vaper, you’ve probably heard these words tossed around a million times. But do you really understand what they are and what they mean for you? We’re here to shed some light on the specifics of propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, the differences between them, and how they work in e-liquids around the globe.

    Propylene glycol - or its more technical name, propane-1,2-diol - is a liquid alcohol that’s used as a solvent for too many products to count. Propylene glycol, or PG for short, is created through a process of fermentation of yeast and other carbohydrates. You may have heard frightening statements such as, “propylene glycol is used in antifreeze, and therefore isn’t safe for consumption”, but that’s not true whatsoever. While propylene glycol is used as a solvent in antifreeze, it’s also used as a storage agent for foods, plastics, and other industries that deal with consumption or health. In vaping, PG is used as a solvent to store e-liquids while retaining flavor for long periods of time.

    Vegetable glycerin, also known as VG, is a more natural liquid solvent. Produced from extracts of plant oils such as palm, soy, or coconut, vegetable glycerin is used heavily in the food industry as a solvent to deliver sweetness and moisture to various products. Other products like lotions and shampoos use the naturally occurring compound as a humectant - something that attracts moisture to whatever it is applied to. In vaping, vegetable glycerin is also used to store e-liquids. However, it’s usually used in flavors that require more sweetness or flavors that should produce more vapor.

    So what’s the difference between VG and PG, and why do you hear so many arguments about the two chemicals? Well, it comes down to a few key factors. The major factors that vapers argue about in relation to the ingredients used are all related to each other in multiple ways. Propylene glycol is used extensively in flavors that are substitutes for nicotine, as it provides a more “realistic” throat hit, according to traditional smokers who have transitioned to vaping. Propylene glycol also carries synthetic flavorings in a more true manner than vegetable glycerin, not changing the tastes over time as vegetable glycerin might. Vegetable glycerin tends to give a smoother and less realistic throat hit. As previously mentioned, it is significantly sweeter, meaning that flavors suspended in VG are more likely to be on the sweeter side. However, it produces significantly thicker and robust vapor, so it’s perfect for the cloud chasers out there.

    Now, propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin were previously used as single suspension liquids for e-juices. In more recent years, however, VG and PG have been used in conjunction in various e-liquids. Ratios of VG to PG are something you will probably hear vapers talking about pretty regularly, as e-liquids will offer huge ranges of ratios to satisfy the urges of many vapers. Bringing it back to the differences in VG and PG will help clear up why some vapers want certain ratios of the two in their e-liquids. Having VG and PG in e-liquids will compliment and bring out certain tastes in the flavors. Simultaneously, the hit will be both smooth and robust, and each pull will produce more vapor that is easily obtained than from a liquid that only contains one of the two compounds. Usually, an 80-20 ratio of one to the other will be used. This ratio signifies that either the vaper is looking for a strong throat hit with original flavors and a tiny bit of added sweetness (i.e. an 80-20 PG to VG ratio), or a huge cloud with a much sweeter flavor and a smoother throat hit (an 80-20 VG to PG ratio). Some vapers will even look for a 50-50 ratio, to get the best of both worlds.

    Now that you know what VG and PG are, you can be a more educated vaper. Vapers will always discuss their preferences for vegetable glycerin or propylene glycol in their e-liquids.     Doing an Audit on Your Device

    Auditing your vaping device is something that every vaper should do, regardless of experience level or time spent vaping. Regularly checking your device for flaws or defects will help you understand your device better than before as well as help you notice if there are any potentially harmful wears or irregularities that you might not have caught as soon otherwise. Auditing your device at least once every three months is a great idea.

    To audit your device, the first thing you must do is deconstruct your device. Of course, how easy this task is depends on the device you have. Do you own a simple e-cigarette or vaporizer? Or perhaps a more complex MOD? For a vape, getting all the parts separated and spread out in front of you is a fairly simple and straightforward process. Unscrew the tank from the base, and take the battery out from the casing. Check if there’s any e-liquid in the tank, and if so leave it (or discard it, that choice is entirely up to you). Separate the mouthpiece if possible. For a MOD, the process is most likely more arduous. Because MODs are made up from so many individualized pieces—usually customized—the separation and unscrewing of various bits and parts can take a lot more time. In this case, you must be sure to take far more care, as many of the parts are more delicate and need a finer touch.

    After separating all the pieces, regardless of device type, lay each piece in front of you on a cloth. One by one, carefully inspect each piece. For the mouthpiece, take a look to see if there is any resin buildup underneath the lip. If so, you’ve two choices. The first is to simply replace the mouthpiece. If you have a spare one lying around or can easily go buy a new mouthpiece or two, then you should absolutely go for this option. The second choice is to give the mouthpiece a nice scrubbing. Wipe it down with warm water and a dash of soap, and scrub vigorously to remove that buildup.

    Next, move onto the tank. Inspect the outside for any cracks or cloudiness. This indicates that it’s time to change your tank, since cracks will result in shattering or leakage of e-juice. Once the outside inspection is done, check the coils inside. Look for any nicks in the coil, and check for buildup or dryness on the wicking material. Nicks in the coil will disrupt the flow of current, resulting in much weaker pulls. Dryness or buildup can also cause less liquid to flow, resulting in less vapor. Regardless of the problem, it’s always a good time to change your coil.

    Once you’ve inspected the tank, take a quick look at the battery. Is the battery showing any clear signs of discoloration or change in size or shape? If so, then it’s time to replace the battery. Discoloration or bulging could mean that the re-chargeability of your battery is about to decline rapidly. Chances are, you’ve already noticed a decrease in amount of time you can use your vape during vape sessions.

    Now that you’ve inspected your vape thoroughly and replaced any parts that need it, it’s time to put all the parts back together. Take a good look at your device. Are you happy with it? If not, then it’s a good thing you did an audit. That audit will help you search for a new vape, since you now know exactly what works and what doesn’t work for you in a device. If you’re completely satisfied with your device and if you’ve properly audited your device, it’ll almost feel brand new once you’ve taken that first pull during your next session.     To start, you’ll need a few items. A pair of miniature scissors similar to ones you see in hospitals is necessary. Tweezers, a screwdriver, and needle-nose pliers are also needed. An ohm meter, a device you can pick up for relatively cheap at the local hardware store, is a critical component. Kanthal wire and wicking material like cotton will round out the components you’ll use when building your device.

    A plethora of articles on the specifics of doing this exist online, but knowing that, it's imperative to build your coils properly; being the first thing you should know. Because everything in a device runs on the basic principles of physics, overloading the capacity of your of it is quite a possibility.

    If you build a coil with little resistance, there's a high chance that your battery will blow out. Therefore, that previously mentioned ohm meter is absolutely necessary through every step of the process. Test the resistance of your coil before you power it, and make sure to calculate the current draw of your coil. Double check all of your calculations before you use that coil for the first time.

    With that said, once you've made your coil and have made sure it's safe to use, the experience is unbelievable. You'll produce clouds even bigger than before due to the freshness and tightness of the coil. Even better, with some experience you can easily tweak the coil to match your vaping style exactly, pairing your pulls with the exact amount of power to create a holy alliance of vapor. Once you get the hang of coil creation, it becomes quite fun. Of course, it's significantly cheaper than buying new coils every time it’s necessary. The individual parts come in such bulk that you don't have to buy them very often, so your vaping sessions will be interrupted far less often than before.

By creating a completely safe way of limiting temperature with no human input, the system makes sure that it doesn't overheat. System overheating could lead to many parts of the MOD becoming damaged, from the battery melting to tanks cracking and breaking. It could also lead to burnt out wicks or unpleasant dry hits. The temperature control system makes sure, none of these things occur.

    Though most vapers think dry hits are just unpleasant, they can actually be harmful. Certain types of wicking material can actually burn and produce harmful chemicals.
